Welcome to 2nd Grade! I am looking forward to meeting you and having an amazing year of learning.  Here's a little bit about me. This is my 25th year teaching. I have taught 3rd, 5th, and 7th grade. I served in the past as a BTSA mentor teacher, to various grades, for many years.  I am excited to have this opportunity to teach 2nd grade, as I did my initial student teaching at this level, many years ago, and loved it!, You may have also met me through School Site Council, PTO, or our After school Program as Sundale's Health and Wellness Coordinator.  I have two grown sons, who grew up helping out at Sundale, and two wonderfully adorable grandsons, ages 6 and 8.

Please feel free to contact me at school with questions, or by email at linda.allen@sundale.org.  I check my email daily. I look foward to meeting all of you!

Homework

Homework is an important part of your child’s academic growth and self-discipline skills. It reinforces skills already taught and  and learned in class and prepares students for the next lesson.  Homework teaches students to work independently and helps in evaluating their learning progress.

Your child will receive regular assignments Monday through Thursday.  Please check with them nightly as they become accustomed to this habit.

Computer Programs at Home

Our class has access to Core 5 Lexia Reading, Dreambox, and Accelerated Reader during their school day.  These programs are also available to the student to use from their home.  In order to access the program your child can go to the  Sundale Home Web page and click on students and the resource icons.  Accelerated Reader (for AR tests) can be used before 4 p.m. .

Second Grade

Snacks

Healthy snacks are welcome and encouraged.  Students are allowed to bring fruit, vegetables, crackers, cheese, pretzels, or granola bars as snacks.  They are also allowed to bring small bottles of water with a lid to drink in the classroom.  I believe they work harder and concentrate better if they are not hungry.  Sorry, no sugary treats, or chips will be allowed to be eaten during this time.
