Reading Revolution is a Tulare County reading competition that will take place in May. The competition is open to 4-8 graders. Students who are interested will attend a meeting in mid-September. They will be given the list of 15 books chosen by the county and a permission to try-out letter. If their signed permission letter is returned, they may begin reading the designated books. Sundale’s participants will not be chosen until the end of February, at which time we will evaluate those who still have interest and have read the majority of titles. Students will need to have passed the AR tests on the titles they have read, work well within a group, and be on track to finish all the books by mid-April.

Spelling Bee is open to 5-8 graders who love to spell! Starting in mid-September, students will try out with both a written and oral spelling test given by the coach. Once 5-6 students per grade level make the team, they will meet twice a week until the Rural School’s Spelling Bee (typically held the first or second week of November). If the team places either first or second, they move on to the Championship usually held the week prior to Thanksgiving. Spelling Bee is both an individual as well as a team sport! There is also a County Individual Spelling Bee held in February for the top two spellers (grade level does not matter). These students will be determined by the coach and given lists to study prior to Christmas break.
