Fall Cornucopia

Mrs. Warner

Back to School letter

Dear Parents:

Welcome to fourth grade! This is an exciting year of transition between the primary grades and upper grades. Your child will experience many new opportunities for learning and growth in responsibility and cooperation. I am looking forward to a very productive year with your child.

As a parent, you can expect to see a minimum of 30 minutes per day of homework along with another 30 minutes of independent reading per day. With very few exceptions, your child’s homework is a direct reflection of what they are learning in class that day. Because of this, it is very important that your child complete every homework assignment in a timely manner. If one assignment in a week is late, only partially complete or missing, your child will be in Detention/Study Hall on Friday afternoons to complete their work. Also, if work is done in a sloppy manner and/or full of careless mistakes, it may be given back to your child to re-do in Study Hall. The point is RESPONSIBILITY. It is not just to learn fourth grade curriculum, but to also prepare your child to succeed in school for many years to come.

My class rules are as follow:

  1. Be on time everyday!
  2. Always do your best.
  3. Bring your binder, all books and pencil to class everyday.
  4. Complete ALL assignments on time.
  5. Listen when others speak.
  6. Be respectful to everyone.

CONSEQUENCES

In the unfortunate event your child has a problem with discipline, here is what you can expect.

  1. Verbal warning
  2. Loss of recess or other privilege
  3. Phone call or note home

Anything after this will result in your child being sent to the office and an immediate parent/teacher conference.

As a rule, I do not have many discipline problems in my classroom. However, please know that I will alter my consequences at any time depending on the severity of the behavior.

REWARDS

Students will be rewarded for appropriate behavior, responsibility and good effort with positive comments, praise, good grades and special incentives throughout the school year.

Below I have listed some suggested school supplies for your child. Not having the following supplies will in no way jeopardize your child’s grade or participation in any activities. If your child will be using a binder, it would be very helpful if ALL binders and subject dividers were here as soon as possible so I can explain the best way to set the binder system.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me by phone or email. The school’s phone number is 688-7451 and my email address is tami.warner@sundale.org. I do check my email each day, so that would probably be the quickest way to reach me.

Again, I’m really excited about this upcoming year and sharing fourth grade with your child. After you have read this with your child, please sign the appropriate portion and return it to me as soon as possible.
