Mrs. Mello’s Welcome Back Letter

2022-2023

Dear Parents,

I’m very excited for the new school year!  I look forward to getting to know all of you and working with your child.  I’ve listed some of my expectations and policies for the class below.  Once you have read the classroom letter, please sign your name, detach the bottom of the form, and send it to school with your child.

Please feel free to contact me anytime you have questions or concerns.  You can email or call the school and leave a message.  I will try to respond back as soon as possible.  Thank you for your support and I look forward to a great year!!

Sincerely,

Victoria Mello

Classroom Rules and Discipline:

1. Show respect and kindness to everyone

2. Listen and follow teacher’s instructions

3. Raise your hand quietly and wait to be called on

4. Try your best, and be ready to learn!!

** In the unfortunate event that a problem should arise, I mostly deal with the behavior issue in the classroom.  However, if the student’s behavior appears to be continuing then I will contact parents.  The student may be asked to owe their free time or some other consequence, as well as, contacting the office; it all depends on the situation.  Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

School Supplies: This is not mandatory but highly recommended.

*backpack—----I will provide everything else that your child will need for class; including homework folders, pencils, erasers, crayons, glue sticks, scissors, and pencil boxes.  Students have a limited amount of space in their desks.  Any extra items they want to bring to school will need to be stored in their backpacks.

Homework/Classwork:

*Starting in September, your child will have a minimal amount of homework (Monday thru Thursday only).   Homework typically consists of math, spelling, and reading.  Homework will be due first thing in the morning.   I know life can get pretty busy and hectic so if there are any issues that pop-up, please let me know.

   Parent Volunteers:

I look forward to having parent volunteers this year.  I typically don’t have parent volunteers until September or October as I am trying to get better acquainted with your child, and make sure the students are settled in with our classroom schedules and procedures.  I will be sending home a parent volunteer form when the time comes.

Student Snacks and Water bottles:

Your child can bring a small healthy snack for their 10 o’clock break.  Keep in mind that we eat lunch early (11:25).  Often students are not hungry for lunch if their snack is too big.  Here’s a list of a few healthy options:  fresh fruit/veggies, popcorn, crackers, cheese, yogurt, granola bars, protein bars, etc..---try to avoid having them bring candy or other high sugary snacks which often makes them feel tired and sluggish.   Students can bring water bottles to class.  Other drinks will not be allowed in the classroom.

Classroom Donations: The classroom is always in need of additional supplies to keep it running smoothly.  Any donations would be greatly appreciated.  Here are some helpful items on our wish list:

**Lysol or Clorox wipes or any other type of sanitizing wipes

* *New or Used Pencils

**Healthy snacks for the students--- Please, no sugary snacks.

**Hand Sanitizer

Parent-Teacher Communication:

*This year I will be doing Remind 101 to help better communicate with parents.  I will let you know as soon as I get it up and running.  Otherwise, emailing me is the best way to get into contact with me or you can call the school.  I will get back to you as soon as possible.  Just a heads-up, if you email me after 3:20, I may not see it until the next morning.

*Be on the lookout for my “classroom weekly note.”  I typically send it home on Mondays.  The weekly note informs parents of the week’s spelling words, and any special announcements or events that are coming up that pertain to our class.

*If you have an important message to give to your child, please contact the school office.  Do not email me because I may not see it in time.

    Other Important Info:

*Parents, please do not come to the classroom unless you have checked in at the office.  If there’s anything that you need to give to your child please give it to the office and they will call me.  This helps to decrease the amount of distractions and interruptions.

*Please label your child’s name on lunchboxes, jackets, backpacks, and          other personal items.

*Please remind your child to NOT bring any toys or valuable items to school.

*Be sure to contact the office if your child is absent.  If you let me know in advance that your child will be absent then I can prepare work for them.
