Mrs. Medeiros Room 8

Welcome!!!

Parents, thank you for checking out our classroom website.

We show good character in all that we do!

Learning good character traits are essential to a child’s social development. Character Counts is a program that is implemented school wide. Encourage your child to be a good person of character in and outside of school. The six pillars of Character Counts include:

TRUSTWORTHINESS: Be honest • Don’t deceive, cheat or steal • Be reliable — do what you say you’ll do • Have the courage to do the right thing • Build a good reputation • Be loyal — stand by your family, friends and country.

RESPECT: Treat others with respect; follow the Golden Rule • Be tolerant of differences • Use good manners, not bad language • Be considerate of the feelings of others • Don’t threaten, hit or hurt anyone • Deal peacefully with anger, insults and disagreements.

RESPONSIBILITY: Do what you are supposed to do • Preserve: keep on trying! • Always do your best • Use self-control • Be self-disciplined • Think before you act — consider the consequences • Be accountable for your choices.

FAIRNESS: Play by the rules • Take turns and share • Be open-minded; listen to others • Don’t take advantage of others • Don’t blame others carelessly.

CARING: Be kind • Be compassionate and show you care • Express gratitude • Forgive others • Help people in need.

CITIZENSHIP: Do your share to make your school and community better • Cooperate • Get involved in community affairs • Stay informed; vote • Be a good neighbor • Obey laws and rules • Respect authority • Protect the environment.

 We are Readers!

In first grade, reading is essential to your child’s academic development. Research shows that reading for just 10 MORE minutes per day can increase the amount of words your child encounters by over 1 MILLION words per year (Boushey and Moser, 2014, p. 31). WOW!!! Encourage your child to read every night and look for sight words within the stories they are reading.

We are Mathematicians!

In the classroom, we work on various math concepts and continue to build on those concepts throughout the school year.

At home, help your child learn to count to 120, write their numbers to 120, become familiar with more than less than, and turn everyday tasks into math problems.

We are Writers!

Your child's writing skills will grow tremendously throughout the school year! By the end of the school year, student's will be writing stories of their own.
