We show good character in all that we do!

Developing good character traits is crucial for a child's growth. Character Counts is a school-wide program designed to foster this development. Encourage your child to demonstrate strong character both in and out of school. The six pillars of character are:

  • TRUSTWORTHINESS: Be honest • Don’t deceive, cheat or steal • Be reliable — do what you say you’ll do • Have the courage to do the right thing • Build a good reputation • Be loyal — stand by your family, friends and country.
  • RESPECT: Treat others with respect; follow the Golden Rule • Be tolerant of differences • Use good manners, not bad language • Be considerate of the feelings of others • Don’t threaten, hit or hurt anyone • Deal peacefully with anger, insults and disagreements.
  • RESPONSIBILITY: Do what you are supposed to do • Preserve: keep on trying! • Always do your best • Use self-control • Be self-disciplined • Think before you act — consider the consequences • Be accountable for your choices.
  • FAIRNESS: Play by the rules • Take turns and share • Be open-minded; listen to others • Don’t take advantage of others • Don’t blame others carelessly.
  • CARING: Be kind • Be compassionate and show you care • Express gratitude • Forgive others • Help people in need.

In class, we will be addressing on the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) for reading. The standards focus on the following key areas:

  1. Reading Foundations
  2. Reading Fluency
  3. Reading Literature
  4. Reading Informational Text
  5. Intergration of Knowledge and Ideas
  6. Range of Reading and Level of Text Complexity.

Our math curriculum, Engage NY, covers a range of topics, including numbers and counting, addition and subtraction, measurement, time, shapes, and more.

We are Writers!

Our writing curriculum, Step Up to Writing, will greatly enhance your child's writing skills over the course of the school year.
